3rd International Workshop

From 6 to 14 November the Instituto de Medicina Integral Prof. Fernando Figueira (Brazil) hosted the third international workshop of the project attended by more than 40 researchers from all the participating countries.


During the meeting progress to date was discussed and the next steps of the project were planned. Among the advances were presented; preliminary results of qualitative studies of different countries  -on care coordination from the professionals point of view and on continuity of care from the perspective of users with chronic diseases- indicating that although some problems appear similar, the causes are different in each context.

Drafts of the two questionnaires that will be applied to develop the quantitative study, consisting of two surveys, were also discussed. The first one on care coordination is aimed at primary and secondary care physicians. The second one refers to continuity of care and is for users of health services. This last is an adapted version of the CCAENA questionnaire developed by the Consorci de Salut i Social de Catalunya (Spain).

The team from Prins Leopold Instituut voor Geneeskunde Tropische (Belgium) presented possible methods for identifying  with cooperation of  health professionals -interventions to improve coordination related to quality of care.

The seminar concluded with a presentation on the operational aspects of the survey’s development.

In addition, during the first two days of the meeting the international scientific committee (Dr. Jacques Girard, Laval University, Canada) and the Brazilian national committee. (Dr. Geisa Maria Campos de Macedo, President of the National Association of Diabetes Care and the National Federation of Associations and Institutions Diabetes, Maria Fatima da Silva Menezes, representative of the State Board of Health of Pernambuco) which provide support in research attended the workshop and the local conductor committee (Ms. Vieira Lima Michelly, institutional support of basic care / Municipal Health Department and coordinator of the Center for Support and Family Health Program, Caruaru), that was present throughout the meeting.
