Publication of the results of the Equity-LA II project on the limited evolution in the implementation of clinical coordination mechanisms in health service networks in Colombia

2020-10-07

The scientific journal International Journal of Health Planning and Management has just published the article "Changes in knowledge and use of clinical coordination mechanisms between care levels in healthcare networks of Colombia" prepared in collaboration between the Research Department (SEPPS) of the CSC and the University of Rosario (Colombia) in the framework of the research project: Impact of care integration strategies in Latin American health service networks-Equity-LA II (http://www.equity-la.eu/es/index.php).

The article analyses the level of knowledge and use of clinical coordination mechanisms between levels of care and their changes between 2015 and 2017 in public health service networks in Bogota, Colombia, based on the comparison of two cross-sectional studies based on a survey of doctors using the COORDENA© questionnaire. The study shows that in both networks and years, there is a greater knowledge and use of information mechanisms and very limited clinical management with some changes in 2017. Although in the two years and networks the reference/counter-reference format (FRCR) and the hospital discharge report (HDR) were the most known and used for the transfer of clinical information between levels, there is still a low reception of these mechanisms in the PA and problems in the quality of the information shared (Incomplete information/ Non-relevant/ Illegible letter) (except in the HDR in the Network2). Strategies are needed to promote the adequate implementation of coordination mechanisms between levels.

The article is also part of the doctoral thesis: Knowledge and use of coordination mechanisms between care levels in health service networks in Colombia, developed by Gloria León.
