European Commission highlights Equity-LA II project as a success story in research
2019-03-23
The European Commission has included the Equity-LA II project among the research success stories highlighted on its website, valuing its long-term vision, the high degree of support and participation and the way in which international scientific collaboration is developed as key elements for overcoming the generalised fragmentation and improving the quality of care in the health service networks of the 6 Latin American countries where the project is being developed.
In an interview with Dr. María Luisa Vázquez, project coordinator, she explained that "there is little evidence of best practices in the coordination of health care in Latin America" and that this research is necessary in which health services, policy makers and researchers from the European Union and Latin America collaborate. The European Commission, which supports the project, ensures that networking has strengthened the research capacity and knowledge exchange between the actors involved, leading to processes with high potential to improve care integration.
"With around 16,000 people directly involved and potentially 3 million indirect beneficiaries, this is an exciting project that develops parallel action research interventions in six countries," according to Vázquez, who explains more details about the project on the European Commission's website where he advances that "we are in the final analysis phase at this moment, but we can already see very promising results, particularly in some of the participating countries, such as Chile, where the intervention has been progressively expanded to other primary care centers and hospitals.
