IX International Workshop of the Equity-La II Project, in México

2018-09-26

The Institute of Public Health at the University of Veracruz, México, hosted the IX International Workshop of the project between the 24th  and 30th of August. All research teams participated in the workshop along with health services managers, members of the local steering committee and members of the international and national scientific committees (Juan Neme Kuri, Deputy director of teaching and research in centre Dr. Rafael Lucio, Soledad Barria, University of Chile and Carolina Tetelboin, Metropolitan Autonomous University Xochimilco).

The results of the evaluation of the interventions constituted the main content of the workshop. The interventions were designed and implemented through a participatory action research process in order to improve healthcare coordination and continuity across levels of care in the participating healthcare networks,

Most interventions aimed at improving communication between professionals from different levels of care creating spaces for joint clinical discussions to foster mutual knowledge and trust and to improve the joint management of patients.

The preliminary results showed how the participative approach has contributed to adaptation of the interventions to the different healthcare contexts and to the needs of their professionals. Differences between participant countries were observed, that might be related to the different contexts and procedures. These relationships will be analyzed in the following months.

Once the IX International Workshop ended, on the 31st of August, the University of Veracruz hosted a public seminar to present the results of the evaluation of the strategies to improve coordination and continuity implemented in the health care networks of the participating countries to aa wider audience.

Main actors of the Mexican intervention (primary and secondary care doctors, professionals, managers, authorities, local steering committees and research team)  got the opportunity to present in first person the process and preliminary results to healthcare authorities, managers and professionals. More than a hundred professionals took part in the event, including researchers from different Mexican regions.
