Workshop on integrated health services networks in Bogota

Between the 2nd  and the 4th of November the University of Rosario and the South West Integrated Health Services Subnetwork organized the workshop "Improving coordination and continuity of care across levels of care of health services networks in the Latin American context”. The workshop took place in the main auditorium of the District Health Secretariat of Bogotá as part of the intervention to improve the coordination of care in the public heathcare networks of Bogotá.

Close to a hundred health professionals participated in the workshop, including general practitioners, specialists, nurses and other health professionals, as well as managers of both the District Health Secretariat health services networks and insurance company. Along with Dr. Amparo Mogollon and other researchers from the University of Rosario and the professionals and managers of the District Health Services Network of Bogotá, two PI of the project attended to the workshop: Dr. Pamela Eguiguren, the principal investigator of the School of Public Health at the University of Chile and Dr. M. Luisa Vázquez of the Consorci de Salut i Social de Catalunya.

Dr. Victoria Eugenia Martínez Puello, manager of the South West Integrated Health Services Subnetwork of the Secretariat for the District of Bogotá, opened the event together with the representatives of the University of Rosario and other local authorities. Dr. Vázquez presented the framework for the analysis of the integrated health networks, as well as the results of its application in the six countries participating in the study Equity LA II.

The professionals of the health services network in Bogota explained their experience regarding the design, planning and implementation of interventions aimed at improving coordination across levels of care in their networks. Dr. Eguiguren presented the experience of Chile and the way that the method used was included in the new policy on health services networks of the Ministry of Health. The interventions aimed at improving the communication among professionals of different levels of care as well as, to creating spaces for the joint clinical discussion to promote professionals mutual knowledge and collaboration in the care of the patients.

In addition, professionals presented other experiences developed within the integrated health service networks of the District and aimed to improve collaboration between professionals of different levels of complexity and thus imporve the quality of care provided to the patient. The presentations stimulated intense debates around the interventions relevance and factors that influence the results of the interventions.
