2016-11-30

The Universidad Nacional de Rosario (Argentina) hosted the VI Internacional Workshop of the Equity-LA II project from 21 to 25 November. The workshop counted with the presence of researchers from all participating teams in Latin America (Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Argentina and Uruguay) Belgium and Spain, as well as managers and directors of the participating health services networks, members of the local comittees of Colombia, Chile, México, Argentina and Uruguay, and members of the International Scientific Committee (Dr. Soledad Barria, University of Chile, and Jacques Girard, Université Laval, Canada). The workshop started with an opening ceremony and a presentation of the project, in which the Secretary of Health of the local health services network in Rosario, representatives of the Universidad Nacional de Rosario and other local authorities participated.

The main topic of the workshop was the presentation of the interventions that, by means of a participatory action research process, are being implemented in each country. Teams shared, with the other participants, their progress in the design of the interventions and the first phase of its implementation, which is being carried out for improving coordination across care levels in the health networks. Many of these interventions intend to improve the communication between professionals in the different care levels and to create settings for joint clinical debates in order to get to know each other and to better collaborate in the care of patients. During the workshop, the participants debated and agreed on the steps to be followed in the next phases.

Moreover, during the meeting, preliminary results of the comparative analysis on users’ perceptions of continuity of care between care levels and associated factors in the six Latin America countries were presented.

As an additional activity, the theatre group “Poca gasa”, consisting of doctors and nurses from several health centers in the municipal network, performed the play “La hoja está vencida”. The play showed a theatre forum proposal in which an actual case about the process of referral and counter referral forms of patients in the municipal network is presented, with the objective of reflecting with professionals on the difficulties of patients and professionals encountered along that process.
