The UPE is a public higher education institution that was established in 1990. Its mission is to contribute to sustainable development in Pernambuco through teaching, research and extension. The University provides training at the level of master’s and doctoral degrees in health sciences and natural sciences. The mission of the University is to be recognized for excellence in teaching and research by society and at various levels of government in all regions of Pernambuco. Exit from the project since July 2016.

Principal Investigator: Paulete Cavalcanti de Albuquerque is an Adjunct Professor of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University of Pernambuco and a researcher at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation. She has experience in public health, in primary care and is dedicated to teaching, research and extension in family health, health policy evaluation, health education and popular education.
Lia Giraldo da Silva Augusto is a professor and researcher with UPE. Her areas of public health research include environmental policy and occupational health.
